(Seoul=NSP NEWS) = Gartner, an insight provider announced the preliminary result of the 2024 global semiconductor sales.
According to the result, Samsung Electronics regained the top place from Intel in 2024, widening the gap thanks to the strong rebound in the memory semiconductor prices.
In 2024, Samsung Electronics recorded a total revenue of 66.5 billion dollars.
Intel, despite launching product lineups including AI PCs and Core Ultra chipsets, was pushed to the second place due to sluggish growth of x86 business and low performance of AI accelerators. Intel's semicondoctor sales in 2024 grew by only 0.1% showing little change compared to the previous year.
Nvidia climbed two spots the third place thanks to the strong performance of its AI business. Nvidia continued to record excellent performance of 46 billion dollars, up 84% in 2024.
SK Hynix recorded the highest growth rate in sales among top 10 companies in 2024 ranking 4th place with 42.8 billion dollars sales, which is up 86% compared from the previous year.
This was attributed to the rise in average selling prices of memory chips and its leading position in high-bandwith memory (HBM) for AI applications.
Global semiconductor sales in 2024 recorded 626 billion dollars, up 18.1% compared to 2023. It is projected that semiconductor sales in 2025 will reach a total of 705 billion dollars.
