Samsung Electronics Develops '24Gb GDDR7 DRAM,' Commercialization Planned for Next Year

(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = Samsung Electronics has successfully completed the development of its 12-nanometer-class 24Gb GDDR7 (Graphics Double Data Rate) DRAM.

The 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM, the industry's most advanced specification, is expected to extend its applications beyond traditional graphic DRAM uses like PCs and gaming consoles, with potential for high-performance areas such as AI workstations and data centers.

This product boasts a large capacity of 24Gb and speeds exceeding 40Gbps, while offering improved capacity, performance, and power efficiency compared to its predecessor. Samsung applied its 12-nanometer-class process technology to enhance cell density within the same package size, achieving 50% greater capacity than previous models.

Additionally, by adopting the PAM3 (Pulse Amplitude Modulation 3) signaling method, the GDDR7 DRAM achieves the fastest speed in the industry for graphic DRAM, reaching 40Gbps, with the potential to deliver up to 42.5Gbps depending on the environment.

Samsung has introduced technologies typically used in mobile products, where low power consumption is critical, to this new product, improving power efficiency by more than 30%.

Samsung plans to begin verifying the 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM with key GPU clients for their next-generation AI computing systems by the end of the year and aims to commercialize the product by early next year.
