(Seoul=NSP NEWS AGENCY) = The Thetastable, a subsidiary of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts’ restaurant division, is being reborn as a foodtech company that combines cutting-edge technology with food and beverage services. The company name will be changed to ‘Hanwha Foodtech’ to reflect the characteristics of the main business and future direction.

Hanwha Foodtech plans to actively target the recently growing food tech market based on its experience in operating various restaurant brands such as 63 Restaurant and Dowon Style. Foodtech, a compound word of food and technology, refers to the use of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence(AI), 3D printing, and robots throughout the food industry.

The company plans to actively collaborate with Hanwha Robotics, Hanwha’s robotics affiliate, as the use of advanced robotics technology is essential for the implementation of food tech.

Hanwha Foodtech plans to establish an R&D center near Pangyo, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, where high-tech industry-related companies are concentrated, in the first half of this year (January to June) and use it as a foodtech development and test bed.

Foodtech is one of the major new businesses that Vice President Dong-seon Kim, who is in charge of new business strategies for Hanwha Group’s distribution services and robot divisions, is working on.

Hanwha Foodtech plans to gradually expand the application of new technology, starting with existing food and beverage business sites. In particular, the plan is to expand its global reach not only domestically but also in advanced food tech markets such as the United States and Europe, where food tech markets were formed before Korea.
