(Seoul=NSP NEWS) = On the 17th, Hanwha Systems signed a contract with the Agency for Defense Development to develop one SAR verification satellite for the ‘micro-satellite system development project’ worth 67.9 billion won.
The micro-satellite system development project is a project to develop SAR cluster satellites through mass production after developing and verifying SAR verification satellites.
The final goal is to develop a small, lightweight, and high-performance SAR cluster satellite for quasi-real-time monitoring and observation of the entire Korean Peninsula and surrounding waters by conducting an actual ‘space orbit test’.
When the development of the SAR cluster satellite is completed, it will serve as the ‘eye of the universe’ to thoroughly detect signs of crisis and disaster threats on the Korean Peninsula.
The antenna, which is the core of SAR, is an ultra-lightweight and highly efficient active phased array antenna utilizing a semiconductor transceiver proven through the development of AESA radar for the first Korean fighter jet, KF-21, and will provide a high-resolution observation mode and a wide-area observation mode that can acquire a wide range of images.
