[부산=NSP통신] 보티민트 인턴기자 = The seventeenth Busan International Film Festival(제17회 부산국제영화제) is coming very soon. It will start on October 4th and last for ten days.

The festival has crossed over Korea and become the best Film Festival of Asia.

NSP News Agency has a meeting with the Executive Chairman of Busan International Film Festival, Mr. Lee Yong Kwan.

[Q. What are you most proud about of The Busan International Film Festival.

A. The 1st thing to be proud about Busan International Film Festival is definitely the audience.

Some people would say that it is an exaggeration but I think the festival has the best audience in the world.

Q. What is the difference between Busan International Film Festival and other film festivals?

A. Our goal this year is making a standard movie hall that is comfortable and convenient like a home so that we can bring the audience pleasure and pride while they watch movies.

If we are successful at that, in 2-3 years the festival will take a step to become the film festival that audiences can enjoy all year round, not just 10 days a year.

Q. What is necessary for PIFF to become an world wide film festival.

I think there are 2 factors to help the Busan International Film Festival develop more. The festival has been growing very fast for 17 years so it is experiencing growing pains.

To overcome those growing pains, we have to put into place reforms that will make the festival solid and have internal stability. Because our movie hall is a monumental piece that doesn’t originate from the historicity of the world’s film festivals, if we make it an attraction for domestic and foreign audiences or regular citizens to come and enjoy the movies all year round, I think the festival can still spread and be the film festival that Busan citizens can be proud of.]

A lot of effort is being made to help Busan International Film Festival take a step from Asia’s Best Film Festival to the World’s Best Film Festival.

This year, the Seventeenth Busan International Film Festival is expected as one of the factors for the success of ‘Globalization of Pusan City’s Brand’ and ‘Central City of Cultural Film Industry’.
