Hyundai Motor, Entering North American Markets for Large-sized Hydrogen-electric Trucks

(Seoul=NSP News Agency) soon ki Lee Journalist = Hyundai Motor Company was selected as one of the final suppliers in the bid for the California Port Eco-Friendly Truck Introduction Project(NorCAL ZERO) hosted by the California Air Resources Board(CARB) and the Energy Commission (CEC).

Hyundai Motor, along with CTE, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization aimed at supporting green projects, has led a consortium with several partners aimed at establishing a value chain that encompasses hydrogen supply - vehicle supply - leasing and financing - fleet operation - and follow-up management.

Based on this, Hyundai Motor acquired a qualification to supply a total of 30 Xcient hydrogen electric trucks from the second quarter of 2023.

In response to the needs of the US markets, Hyundai Motor plans to ▲ increase the pressure of hydrogen fuel tank to 700 bar to significantly increase the mileage to about 800 km ▲ supply an Xcient hydrogen electric truck with a tractor model to tow a trailer.

In the process, Hyundai Glovis, which has a logistics network and infrastructure that covers North America, will operate the fleet, while Macquarie Group, an international financial group, will be in charge of leasing and financing.


In addition, CTE and Hyundai Motor will secure a total of 29 million dollars(approximately 33 billion won) in subsidies through the California Air Reserves Board, the Energy Commission, and other local governments to build high-capacity hydrogen charging stations that can charge up to 50 hydrogen electric trucks in a row.
