Bank of Korea, Freezing the Benchmark Interest Rate to 1.75% and Forecasting Economic Growth Rate 2.6% This Year

(Seoul=NSP News Agency) soon ki Lee Journalist = Bank of Korea(BOK) froze the benchmark interest rate to 1.75%. In addition, it forecast that the economy is to grow by 2.6 percent this year, down 0.1 percent from the previous forecast of 2.7 percent, which attracted more attention than the increase in the benchmark interest rate.

Monetary Policy Board of BOK held its first regular meeting on Jan 24 and anonymously froze its benchmark interest rate to 1.75%.

BOK forecast that the gross domestic product (GDP) will grow by 2.6 percent in 2019 and 2020 in the economic outlook of this year on Jan 24.

It forecast that the number of employed people is to increase by 140,000 this year and by 170,000 next year.

It forecast that the employment situation would be gradually improved thanks to the job and income support policies of the government and the increase in the number of foreign tourists, however, the recovery rate would be moderate.

It predicted that consumer price inflation this year would be 1.4 percent, down 0.3% from 1.7% which was expected in Oct, 2018.
