(Seoul=NSP News Agency) soon ki Lee Journalist = SK hynix announced that it has increased the proportion of process introduction to 40% after successful localization of ‘Neon Gas’, an essential raw material for semiconductors. In the future, SK hynix plans to increase the proportion of neon localization to 100% by 2024.
SK hynix found a way to produce neon in Korea in cooperation with its partner, TEMC, a gas manufacturing company for semiconductors, and POSCO to preemptively resolve the risk of supply and demand insecurity.
Neon is the main material of Excimer Laser Gas used in semiconductor exposure process. Although 95% of Excimer Laser Gas is neon, neon is a rare resource that exists only 0.00182% in the air.
SK hynix introduced domestic neon into the semiconductor exposure process from April of this year, and has replaced 40% of the total neon use with domestic products so far. By 2024, all neon products will be replaced with domestic products.
In addition, SK hynix plans to localize Krypton(Kr)/Xenon(Xe) Gas used in the etching process by June next year to minimize the risk of supply and demand of raw materials and continue to secure the resources necessary for developing high-tech semiconductor technologies as a world-class technology company.
