(서울=NSP통신) soon ki Lee Journali = In a New Year's Tea Party with reporters, Lee Juyeol diagnosed that Korea is not in an urgent situation enough to use measures other than interest rates when compared to other countries with negative interest rates.
In his New Year's address in 2020, Lee said that it was necessary to maintain the easing stance on the monetary policy.
When asked about the policy operation other than interest rates at the tea party, Lee said, “We cannot say that interest rate policy alone is enough, but in Korea, we still can afford to respond with interest rates.” “We’re not going to use any other means right now”, and “The main means is interest rates.”
“In the case of other countries where interest rates are low, zero, and negative, research is being carried out in earnest because they can no longer rely solely on interest rate policies.” he said, “We have to wait and see the development, but in our case, we are not in a hurry to use the means, but we are preparing for it in advance.”
In a New Year’s address in 2020, Lee said that the growth trend of the domestic economy was expected to hover below the level of potential growth rate this year and inflationary pressure on the demand side would be weak, so it was necessary to maintain the easing stance on the monetary policy.
